Minnesota Medical Association public statement
The Board adopted the following recommendations:
The Committee on Public Health & Preventive Medicine recommends that the MMA oppose the use of antimicrobials used in human medicine at less than therapeutic levels in agriculture, or as pesticides or growth promoters, and urges that these uses be phased out by regulations; and be it further
RESOLVED, that the MMA urge that increased surveillance of anti-microbial use and resistance be funded and instituted as recommended by the Institute of Medicine and American Society of Microbiology; and be it further
RESOLVED, that the MMA delegation to the American Medical Association support similar policy at the AMA (to be introduced by the California delegation); and be it further
RESOLVED, that the MMA encourage the appropriate state agencies to investigate the role and antibiotic use in agriculture plays in antibiotic resistance.
